Using delicate, flexible substrates to achieve smooth, low stress peeling from carrier substrates

Overview

These coatings enable flexible substrates for organic EL (OLED) displays to be peeled smoothly from carrier substrates. With Geomatec's laser lift off release films, peeling can be carried out with less stress than traditional methods and minimize the ash (burning, exfoliate waste) that develops at the point of laser irradiation. This process also makes it easier to reuse carrier substrates and improves the productivity and yield of flexible substrates, helping reduce costs.

With laser lift off release films, delicate and flexible substrates can be smoothly peeled with less stress than traditional methods. In addition to improving the productivity and yield of the flexible substrates themselves, the films also minimize the leaving of scratches or exfoliation waste on the carrier substrate. This contributes to reduced manufacturing costs.

Functions & Mechanisms

Superior peeling performance that is perfect for manufacturing with flexible substrates

Flexible substrates that are soft and easily warped, like those used in organic EL (OLED) displays, are manufactured atop a hard, highly flat glass carrier substrate. As such, it is necessary for both to be easily peeled from one another.
On the other hand, because polyimide (Pl) and other resin materials that are weak to high temperatures are often used for flexible substrates, the laser lift off technique, in which low-temperature UV light is irradiated onto the peelable layer, has proved effective.

Geomatec's laser lift off release films take full advantage of the optimum peeling performance of laser lift off. The films make flexible substrates easier to peel and prevent deformation or scratching. They also minimize the exfoliation waste deposited on carrier substrates, contributing to higher production yield and lower costs.
